Lough Derg 'B' 1 - Rearcross U-12's 3

Rearcross U-12's made the county border crossing to Killaloe for this U-12 League fixture against Lough Derg 'B' and claimed maximum points on a 3-1 score line. A well contested encounter played on a splendid 3G surface saw the home side create the first chance inside the opening two minutes, however Colm Lenihan reacted to make a reflex foot save. Rearcross hit the front two minutes later when Cillian Kennedy crossed from the right to Eoin Sheldon who bundled the ball home from close range. The lead was short lived as the Lakers were back in the fray a minute later when Ciaran Rodgers fired a low effort to the corner of the net. Rearcross restored their advantage when Cillian Kennedy collected the ball and soloed through before dispatching with aplomb to the corner of the net. The home side’s reaction was instantaneous again and were denied by the woodwork seconds later when Gordon Wood's pile driver crashed against the crossbar. The hosts seemed to have taken the lead minutes in to the second half when Ciaran Rodger's header nestled in the corner of the net, however the goal was disallowed for a pushing infringement. It was end to end after this, but the visitors extended their lead with seventeen minutes remaining when Cillian Kennedy's corner kick was knocked over the line by a luckless Lough Derg player after good work by Amber Deegan. The Slieve Felim team pushed on after this as Jack Morrissey linked up with Eoin Sheldon, however the keeper saved. Eimear Carey turned in an outstanding performance throughout and put in a telling challenge to deny Gordan Wood. The woodwork denied the Clare based outfit two minutes later when a free kick from out on the right lobbed on to the crossbar. Rearcross dominated the exchanges after this as Cormac Sheehy came close with a headed effort from a corner kick and then Cillian Kennedy picked out Brian Nolan with the latter’s effort inches wide of the post. Jack Morrissey threatened again for Rearcross near the end, however it finished 3-1 in favour of Rearcross on this occasion.
